Headquartered in Speke, with a distribution centre in Dublin, Kirkby Tyres caters to a wide range of customers, including tyre trade distributors, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and export markets. The company has maintained a successful partnership with DX for over 20 years.

Kirkby Tyres used to rely solely on an in-house distribution model. However, as the business grew, the company looked to additionally partner with an outsourced solution in order to achieve greater flexibility and scale This shift required finding a fulfilment partner that could meet the company’s specific needs and align with its operational goals.

Handling Kirkby’s unique product range including large tyres, posed significant logistical challenges. The company needed a specialist IDW (irregular dimensions and weight) carrier with the expertise and infrastructure to transport its diverse and complex products efficiently and reliably.

The solution

DX emerged as the ideal logistics partner for Kirkby Tyres. In July 2022, the longstanding partnership was expanded to include a dedicated logistics solution provided by DX’s specialist Logistics division. This development followed a comprehensive service review that identified regions needing improved coverage.

Kirkby Tyres' operational strength lies in maintaining extensive stock at its Speke distribution centre. To support this, DX Logistics now supplies a fleet of dedicated vehicles, ensuring next-day delivery to customers across strategic areas of the country. Operating five days a week, the service includes a guaranteed overnight option and integrates features from DX Final Mile, such as pre-flight notifications.

Kirkby Tyres requires a minimum key performance indicator (KPI) of 95.4% for first-time deliveries—a standard that DX consistently exceeds.
